Pop star Britney Spears is aiming for another comeback.
According to her music label, Jive Records, Spears, 26, is working on a new album with a coterie of unnamed producers.
The album will be a follow-up to her last release, Blackout, which briefly hit number two on the US charts when it was released in November but quickly plummeted when the initial flash of curiosity faded.
According to a statement from Jive Records and Spears’ manager Larry Rudolph, the singer “is spending her summer in the recording studio, working on a brand-new album”.
“She’s working with a team of top-notch producers and songwriters, and we’re very excited about what she’s accomplished so far. No album release date has been confirmed yet,” the statement said.
News of the new album comes as Spears appears to be making progress following a protracted period of erratic behaviour sparked by the breakup of her marriage to former backup dancer Kevin Federline.
A California court had revoked her visitation rights to the couple’s two children but recently reinstated them following the appointment of Spears’ father as conservator of her affairs.

Britney Spears is going on holiday with Mel Gibson. The ‘Toxic’ singer and her father Jamie are heading to Costa Rica with Mel and his wife Robyn.
The quartet will stay at the ‘Braveheart’ actor’s holiday home in the South American country and plan to return next week.
Britney and Jamie were seen boarding a private plane around 9am yesterday. A source said: “They’re just going away for a few days to relax.” |
